Noida: Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are pivotal to the nation’s economy, contributing 30% to the total GDP, accounting for 40% of exports, and providing jobs to 160 million people. Despite their significance, only 35 million out of 65 million MSMEs are currently accessing credit from banks, underscoring a major gap. The banking sector is actively working to bridge this gap and boost the MSME sector.
At the MSME Outreach Program organized by Canara Bank and the MSME Industrial Association, Noida, Canara Bank’s Executive Director, Ashok Chandra, spoke at the National Open School auditorium in Sector 62. He highlighted the crucial role of youth in banking, noting that 71% of Canara Bank’s 84,000 employees are under the age of 35. The bank reported a business volume exceeding ₹23 lakh crore in the first quarter of FY 2024-25, with a profit of ₹3,900 crore.

Suresh Singh Nahata, District President of the MSME Industrial Association, emphasized the importance of the MSME sector in job creation and economic development. He proposed the establishment of a new bank branch in Sector 10 to support industries in Sectors 9 and 10.

RK Bharti, Joint Director of MSME Development and Facilitation Delhi, stressed the importance of industrial development for national economic growth. He underscored the role of MSMEs in empowering women, youth, and marginalized communities through self-employment and entrepreneurship.
Industrialist Navin Agarwal highlighted that each entrepreneur impacts around 500 families, making industrial growth crucial. He suggested that the banking sector should collaborate more closely with industries and refine banking policies. Agarwal commended Canara Bank for its services and advocated for the regular organization of such programs.

The event also provided details on various schemes offered by Canara Bank for entrepreneurs.
